Day 650: Margaret at the Falls

I added this new photograph to Creative Journey
in my Photography section, Post Falls

The Spring runoff is in full force these days. The lake is very high. The rivers are flooding upstream. So the power company opened the dam up completely at Post Falls.

Jodie and I spent some time at Falls Park yesterday — in the rain. Walking to the falls overlook, you can get high simply from all the energy of the water pounding down the rocks and into the narrow ravine below.

It was difficult to get a good angle so that a picture could give the impact of that tremendous energy. In the photo above, Jodie caught a picture of me, mountains in the background, the Spokane River looking fairly quiet above the dam, and then the roar of water as it pours through the dam gates, the mist rising from the river floor below.

The photo at the right shows the water racing through the gates, plummeting down the rocks and into the narrow ravine below.

Click on the photo for a larger image of the Spokane River's frothy green water.
