Simple Living

This week, we had a lot of trees in our yard cut down. About a dozen, in fact. Most were scrawny and would never grow to be large, healthy trees. They were sucking the life out of the more healthy trees around them. Some were diseased. They could spread the disease to the healthy trees. Some were, frankly, in the way. Too close to the driveway, too close to the deck.

The rest of the trees in the yard — over 20 of them — got 'hair cuts.' They were trimmed and thinned and groomed. Our yard looks so much more beautiful! The sun can now reach the grass. We'll be able to GROW grass instead of moss!

The result? Well, it turns out that we were able to help FIVE of our neighbors. Two used the same company to remove hazardous trees in their own yards. Two neighbors got to take the wood from the fallen trees to help heat their homes next winter. One got to have a much nicer view out their front window, PLUS their kids got entertained for the afternoon by watching the workers climb trees, watch the branches fall, watch the clean-up crew.

Our trees were not useful or beautiful on Wednesday. But by Friday afternoon, they became transformed. It's lightened the spirits of the folks living in this home, too.

I hope the resident squirrels are happy.
