I used to collect unusual patron names
thinking I'd use them one day in my writing.
My husband is color blind.I am not.
It's quite an experience

Happy Dance: Autumn Leaf Bookmark
I have been doing a lot more knitting than cross-stitch these days. I'll have to post an image of all the hats I've completed. I've lost count of how many and will likely surprise even myself when I count them.Over the last couple weeks I have dinked around with cross-stitch a little bit, though. I went to the library and found a big pile of cross-stitch magazines in the free magazine exchange bin. I took them all home and looked through them. There were only two that had projects that I wanted to attempt. This is one of them.
I started this autumn stitchery on an extremely hot summer day while watching an episode of Oprah that I recorded last spring. There was some kind of odd synergy in that.
This bookmark is designed by Deborah Lambein from For the Love of Cross Stitch magazine, November 1998, page 20. I like the flow of the leaves and the colors. It's an average-sized bookmark chart, 20w x 82h. I stitched it on some 14ct ivory aida banding and finished the ends with a nun's stitch and fringe.
Believe it or not, I'm keeping this bookmark for myself! That's a rarity.
And I did return the rest of the magazines to the exchange bin. I'll bet there's at least one more cross-stitch enthusiast in Post Falls that will appreciate them.

These two cards from this morning's post caught my eye.
He'll be surprised. It's only the last day of childhood on paper. Getting out of childhood on an emotional level takes much longer.
One of my former boyfriends died a week after my mom died. We split up on good terms. His death bothered me, too.

Sunday Secrets: August 16, 2009
PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. I find it to be an insightful sociological experiment.
The first two postcards were posted on Frank's blog this morning. The third is one I saved in my archives, but never posted before on my blog.
This postcard is an "Easter Egg." There is more to the story, which is found in the name of the image. The rest of the story is: "Other times I think I'm just being punished." That's how I feel about my own mental struggles. But I have to add, "Still other times, I'm incredibly grateful that I'm getting better. I will find value in helping others manage their illness."
I may never again experience the good parts of the mental highs. But it is nice to know those feelings exist ... are shared by others ... that I'm not alone, damaged, abnormal.
The elation! It's great! The problem with sharing it with someone else is that they might not feel it the same way and could be a disappointing buzz kill. Some things need to be kept to oneself, just to protect them.

This cracks me up. I know a feisty woman in assisted living who just might do this. I've been known to do it myself when dealing with 'unconventional' drivers.
My husband isn't comfortable with it either. I well understand their feelings.
I miss my friend all the more.

I've been gone a few weeks, but now that I'm back, I wanted to share the PostSecret posts that resonated within me:
I loved college. It did the opposite for me. Opened me up to new ideas, new ways of looking at the world. It liberated me from the sphere I grew up in, encouraged me to ask questions, and gave me breadth to make choices concerning what made sense to me.
I'd love to hear the story behind this card. Two of the most fascinating and dear friends I have are atheists that dared to share their point of view with me. I appreciate peeking through the lens of people that believe differently than I do.
My mom had a couple miscarriages before I was born. I sometimes like to think of that brother and sister. I imagine the boy as the big brother that likes and protects me. I think of the sister as my best friend, the one that calls me a couple times a week and enjoys similar interests. The one that talks to me about intimate relationships. It would have been nice to have those two siblings.
