Early Autumn Color [1]

Spent

On my early morning walks this week, I began to notice how the dawning light played on the scenery. So much of summer's bounty is falling into dormancy now. Before the plants sleep, they mutate their hues. Give the vibrancy one last hurrah, then melt into shades of brown.

Today starts a series of these early autumn colors. We've not had our first frost, so the typical golds and oranges and reds have not yet appeared in leaves of deciduous trees. The pine trees have not begun their yearly dumping of needles and cones. The fruited plants and annuals have begun their transformation, though.

Here's a peek at my world in early autumn.

The name tree was stitched over one, makes for a lovely dense finish.
