Flowers for Friday: Meadow Saffron

On one of my recent long walks along Amazon Creek, I spotted these beautiful tulip-shaped flowers on the bank of the waterway. They have a lovely tulip shape. But they're more delicate. Plus, they're growing like a wildflower and it's the wrong time of year for tulips.

An image search on Google has me believing they are called Meadow Saffron or autumn crocus. They're much taller than the crocus I know and love that grows in the Spring. Beautiful as they are, this plant is also very poisonous to man and beast.

I'll continue to admire them from afar.
