Photography section, Quail
Every day on my Yahoo! home page I receive a new horoscope. Most of the time, I barely look at it. Rarely do I take heed. But I happened to read it today:
Let your curiosity drive all your decisions today, and you'll end up in some very interesting places. There's no certain path or direction to follow, so toss out your usual routine and go adventuring as much as you can. Even if you only have an hour to spare today, wander off into new areas and explore a new restaurant, store or housing development. It's time you checked out what's going on with the rest of the world. You'll get some bright ideas for new projects or travel.
So just for fun, I took a new route on my walk today, going north and west through my neighborhood instead of the usual south and east toward the river. What I found was a lot of gardens going to seed, but the flowers still trying to hang in there. So over the next few days, I'll be adding more images in my "Deep in Bloom" series.
I also found a flock of quail in one neighbor's yard. There were about 8 adults and so many babies that I couldn't count them all. Of course, quail scare easily. So as I approached, they scattered. The babies scurried under the bushes. The adults flew into the trees.
I stood quietly by the fence until they started feeling safe again. As they began to move and come out into the open, I was able to get this shot of one of the adults in the tree.
Quail. Another reason I love north Idaho. I never saw these funny little birds until I moved here. Now we have a family of them nesting in our back yard.
