Like Meadowlark Prairie, Checkermallow Access is another way to get onto the long bike path that follows Amazon Creek and the surrounding wetlands. This entry is about a quarter mile north and east of the parking lot at Meadowlark.
This isn't so much of a park as a point to enter one of Eugene's open spaces. The access point consists of a circular dive with curbside parking, these bike racks, and a trash receptacle. From here is a short path up a small hill to the paved bike path along the creek.
At the top of the path are these two informational placards that give a lot of good information about the wetlands
and the water system they support.
At this time of year, there are lush grasses along the water, but most of the prairie is fairly dry.
When I stopped here the first time to find a geocache, the water was flowing fairly well over this dam. Now there's just a trickle. Back then, there was a big flower mural painted on the concrete. Now it, and all the surrounding graffiti, has been painted over.
It's a great spot to take in the wide open view.
